Microsoft

Your are sure to see a number of posts regarding Microsoft. These are many things to say about them, and these posts can be regarding the company itself, it’s products, it’s practices, or anything that comes to mind.
Don’t get me wrong – not everything I say (or feel) about Microsoft is negative. I get a paycheck because of them. I have worked with/on Microsoft products almost daily, and have done so for over a decade. They have their good points and bad points, but I tend to harp on the negatives. There are so many people that sing their praises, I don’t feel I need to.

There are some great products that have their name on them, but they have also put their name on some garbage. That’s kind of the way it works, not everything is gonna be a blockbuster.  They don’t really innovate or create new markets, they just wait for someone else to get a good business model, then buy them out.  Sometimes they will make a “new” product, but it’s only after they have seen that it works good for someone else, but it takes time.  Maybe it’s because they have to figure out how to make it into a product that can incorporate their other products.  (ex: see the rise of the XBox)

They’ve got to be doing some stuff right based on their sales and the widespread usage. I don’t approve of it, but they definitely have a business model that’s working good for them – I just don’t think most of it would be the best example for your local college’s Business Ethics class. Ya, like they’re after my approval…

I don’t mean for this blog to become Microsoft-centric, there are plenty of other people that do that much better than I can, but I’ll put in what is weighing in as important in my mind at the moment.

Anywho, read away. Comment at will. But take everything with a grain of salt – in reality, not everything is as I say it is. I naturally don’t have any inside information, and while most of my topics regarding MS start with a nugget of information documented elsewhere, I tend to put my perspective into play and it’s anyone’s guess where it will go from there.
