Recently, there was a rash of views on this online book review, coming from a now defunct Wikipedia page, plus the author’s own site (at http://robertvandyk.com/roblog/2008/11/review.html).

Thank you, Robert, for my review of my review. And as your posting states, yes, the errors I was referring to was grammatical and typographical. It does not take away from the story, it just goes to show how hard it can be to get everything taken care of, even with a group of reviewers.

Just for the fun of it, I went and re-read this book, and my feelings are the same. It’s a great story, and I have recommended it to friends. It’s also still troubling to read as it does remind me of what could happen in the not-so-distant future.

Believe it or not, this isn’t really a parody – not in the way you think. I’m writing this from the other direction.

Many people say homosexuality is just something you’re born with. Because of that, the rest of us must celebrate them being different. Maybe posts like this will help them realize how rediculous it sounds to say you’re ‘born with it.’

Haha good one. Good parody site! I can’t believe some people still think like this….you might even trick some of them with this post. They still think that gay people shouldn’t have equal rights because they don’t like it…duh…yeah that’s enough! Oh well…hopefully posts like this will help them realize how ridiculous they sound.

Settlers from Europe battled with the existing inhabitants of what is now the USA, and as the winners of the war took the land as their own. This is how peoples have taken new homes for eons. So you’re saying that the people we now call Mexicans and Indians were all born to this current continent? Those two races have never lived anywhere else geographically? Really…. No one truly knows how long homosapiens have existed on this planet, nor where each race began. I think it’s safe to say that the Mexicans and the Indians each took the land of the current USA from someone else also.

And who is to say when my ancestors arrived in the US? Maybe it was in the 1960’s, or maybe it was in the 1460’s. Does it matter? The rules in place at the time were followed. Yes, I did check. I don’t give a rip who is “native” to the country. The USA belongs to it’s citizens. Legal ones.

you said your immigrant ancestors came here “legally”, why don’t you ask the Native American Indians and see if they think the aggressive European immigration was considered “legal” for them, their land and their nation’s law.

besides, Mexicans are native of America, unlike you whose ancestors came from Europe, they are Americans and their ancestors have been here for thousands of years, not only 200 years, you white European caucasian, if you don’t like Americans, (Mexicans, native indians or whatever you want to call them) go back to Europe where you belong. Your race is white, white isn’t from this CONTINENT called AMERICA.

An interesting addition has come up regarding this…

In OK magazine in the UK, they are reporting that a brother and sister are fighting to stay together.

No, they aren’t married. No, they aren’t gay. So how does it relate to this article? Simple actually. They are bucking the system. They obviously love each other, so it should be OK for them to be together, right?

Gross.

If for no other comparison, there are laws enacted in most states that are directed towards homosexual people. These people get the same protections, rights, and benefits available to citizens, but also get extras for having a different sexual view.

Think about it – when’s the last time you heard of a homosexual going to court because (s)he was taunting a heterosexual with “straight” slurs and jokes.

College tuition support available for anyone? How about extra support being available because they’re gay?

Thanks for the clarification. I’m sorry if I came across a bit strong, but I have heard the “gay right movement” equated to being the same struggle as the one black people had going from slavery to the equal rights they have today. The same rights everyone else has.

Getting back to the point of my posting, gay males and females have the same rights that straight males and females have. As a group, gay people have more rights given specifically to them than straight people have. Once again, voters have struck down another legal angle that they tried to use to try to get more ‘extra’ rights.

No gay marriage. Gay civil unions? I guess. Just not gay marriage.
